HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME.........
It just so happens the last time I partied it was my 24th birthday and what a night it was. I was fortunate enough to have one of my longest and closet friend fly down for it. I could sum up the night by saying nine of us went out for tea and then continued on dancing the night away. However it was so much more than that. It all begun with preparations for the night, tea was booked and the shopping spree was a success, purchasing a blue dress to wear out. Returning back to the flat, we all started gathering in my room late afternoon. Wine was being opened, and caps were coming off beer's. The girls were getting to know each other, and my friend was spilling stories about my youth to my flat mates. I love this part of 'partying'- The stage of getting ready. Now a couple of drinks down and my so called friends were all laughing at me putting on my make-up. Ha, in their defense is was all over me. My new blue dress, which I had only owned for a matter of 2 hours, somehow wouldn't fit had I just gained another size? (could be due to the beer) however with the help of three people it was all sorted- PHEW... Now for those that know me, I can never really be on time, this drives my flat mate Bex crazy. To avoid me running around at the last minute trying to find my i.d Bex introduced a strategy at the start if the year, I would get given a time by which I had to be ready to go. In theory this should work right??? WRONG- I am still running around at the last minute like a headless chicken "Bex seriously I cant find it , I dont know where Ive put it" "Bex I cant find my shoes" just to name a few. Tonight was no different. Everyone else was ready to go, one car load had gone, however I was still looking for my belongings. After a couple off "Im over this EMMA" looks, from Bex, we were good to go. Although she would never agree with me I feel this has somewhat become a ritual for going out, its just how we roll..... AYE BEX!!!!!!!!!!!
After all the 'fun' back at the flat we made it to dinner. Food is a huge part to 'partying', it helps bring people together. After living together for 10 months this was the first time we were all out together, a celebration in itself. It went from civilized conversation one minute and the next demonstrating tricks we could all do with our hands. Our noise level increased drastically, indicating it was time to go- which I'm sure the owners were pleased about. Where else to move to but the mighty METRO!!!! We danced until the early hours of the morning, and as our legs couldn't move any more we made a beeline to the best Kabab shop down George street- Another ritual of mine and Bex's at the conclusion of our night out partying. To my huge disappointment it was 430am and Mr Kabab man was no longer open, the 24 will have to do. Steak and cheese pie, Cordon Bleu and Nachos (which all seem like a good idea at the time). Getting out of the taxi, clutching our food and making our way inside, we finished the remaining mouthfuls in bed and before we knew it we had all fallen asleep and it was 9am. Steering at the evidence of last night's binge eating meltdown. Swapping tales of events, as we began piecing together the night, flashbacks occuring, creating memories which will last forever.
The above story is much more than just a 'party'. It was a celebration with friends, recognizing my rituals, which to others may seem absurd but to me, its just who I am. Although I had a fantastic night, it was the first time in 24 years I did not see my parents on my birthday. Birthday's are of huge importance to our family, and are always celebrated. This coming weekend my parents are coming down, Im sure the celebrations with them will be some what different to the above story.
